Outspoken chairwoman of Ute Tribe ousted in council election





Irene Cuch, the outspoken chairwoman of the Ute Tribe of Utah, lost her bid for re-election on Wednesday.

Cuch was unseated by Bruce Ignacio in the council seat representing the Uintah Band. She had 88 votes compare to 102 for Ignacio, according to the Ute Bulletin, the tribe's newspaper.

Tribal members also elected Gordon Howell and Tony Small to the council. A swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for May 8.
