Tribal organizations meet for budget briefing in Senate building

Eight major tribal organizations are hosting a budget briefing this afternoon to call on Congress to honor its promises in Indian Country.
The National Congress of American Indians, the Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians, the California Association of Tribal Governments, the Coalition of Large Tribes, the Great Lakes Inter-Tribal Council, the Great Plains Tribal Chairman's Association, the Montana and Wyoming Tribal Leaders Council and the United South and Eastern Tribes will discuss how sequestration undermines trust, treaty and legal obligations to tribes and their governments.
The briefing takes place from 1pm - 3pm in Room 628 of the Senate Dirksen Office Building. The schedule follows:
1:00 -1:15 p.m. - Welcome, Opening - Ron Allen, NCAI Treasurer, Chairman, Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe
1:15 -1:30 p.m. - Tex Hall, COLT - Chairman of the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation in North Dakota
1:30 -1:45 p.m. - Fawn Sharp, President of ATNI, President of the Quinault Indian Nation
1:45 – 2:00 p.m. - USET Tribal Leader (TBA)
2:00 – 2:15 p.m. – Northwest Indian Fisheries Commission (TBA)
2:15 -2:30 p.m. - National Indian Health Board (TBA)
2:30 – 3:00 p.m. - Congressional speakers (TBA)
