Tribes discuss building their nations at conference in Wyoming

Tribal leaders and tribal advocates are at the University of Wyoming for the Building Tribal Nations conference.

Speakers include Eastern Shoshone council member Wes Martel, activist LaDonna Harris and attorney Walter Echo-Hawk. They discussed sovereignty, education and economic development at the opening session on Monday.

“If tribes exercise their own authority and sovereignty, there are a lot of things they can do without waiting around for the federal government," Martel said at the conference, WyoFile reported.

The conference concludes today.
