Ed Thomas, the president of the
Central Council of the Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes
of Alaska, said he won't run for re-election in 2014.
Thomas said he wants to continue serving the Tlingit and Haida in other capacities. He's a member of the
Sealaska
board of directors and is active in the
National Congress of American Indians
and the
Alaska Federation of Natives
.
Thomas was first elected president in 1984. He held the post until 2007, when he
unexpectedly resigned
, only to return in 2010.
