Supreme Court sets times for oral argument in ICWA dispute





The U.S. Supreme Court issued an order on Monday in Adoptive Couple v. Baby Girl, an Indian Child Welfare Act case.

The justices will hear the case on Tuesday, April 16. Oral arguments will last 60 minutes, which will include 20 minutes for the non-Indian couple that wants to adopt a Cherokee girl, 10 minutes for the guardian ad litem, 20 minutes for Dusten Brown, the Cherokee Nation father and 10 minutes for the Department of Justice, according to the order.

The case has drawn significant attention, with the Cherokee Nation father drawing support from 18 state attorneys general, law professors, child welfare organizations and other parties.
