Federal and state authorities are investigating the June 2012 election of the Seneca-Cayuga Tribe of Oklahoma, according to Chief LeRoy Howard.

In a letter to tribal members, Howard said the election was "marred by voter fraud." He said 70 ballots were fraudulently presented, thus invalidating the results.

"I have been informed that a criminal investigation for fraud and other violations is underway with the BIA police, the state police and the FBI," Howard said in the letter that was posted by The Miami News-Record.

Howard said the tribe's election committee is asking a judge with the Court of Indian Offenses to reconsider a ruling that upheld the results of the June 2012 vote.
