House Ethics Committee opens investigation into Rep. Young
Posted: Wednesday, March 20, 2013
Rep. Don Young (R-Alaska), the chairman of the
House Subcommittee on Indian and Alaska Native Affairs, is being investigated by the
House Ethics Committee.
Young was investigated by the
Department of Justice for alleged corruption. No charges were filed but some issues were referred to the committee, which agreed to open a probe.
The investigation will determine whether Young "or persons acting on his behalf, improperly obtained, received, or accepted gifts, improperly used official resources or campaign funds for personal purposes, failed to report certain gifts on his annual Financial Disclosure Statements, and made false statements to federal officials," the
House Ethics Committee said in a statement.
Young's late wife, Lu Young, was Athabascan. She died in August 2009.
