Supreme Court won't hear mining case involving Karuk Tribe

The U.S. Supreme Court won't be hearing a mining dispute involving the Karuk Tribe of California.

In June 2012, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the U.S. Forest Service failed to consult biologists from other agencies before approving the mining activities along the Klamath River. The decision favored the tribe, whose leaders want to ensure salmon runs are protected.

A pro-mining group called The New 49ers asked the high court to review the ruling. Without comment, the justices declined the case in an order list today.

The case is The New 49ers v. Karuk Tribe.
