Most residents out of trailer park on Torres Martinez Reservation

Most of the residents of a troubled trailer park on the
Torres Martinez Desert Cahuilla Reservation in southern California have been relocated.
Upwards of 3,000 people used to live at the Desert Mobile Home Park, also known as
Duroville.
The state paid $10 million to relocate residents but about 100 households remain, The Palm Springs Desert Sun reported.
With almost everyone gone, landowner Harvey Duro, a tribal member, is looking for ways to develop his land. Plans must be approved by a federal judge, whot appointed a receiver for the trailer park in response to poor living conditions there.
“Of course it feels good, it’s a good day for the whole tribe, anybody who’s trying to do anything on their allotment so they can create a success for themselves,” Duro told the Desert Sun.
