Officials in Shawano County, Wisconsin, are trying to mend fences with tribes after years of land-into-trust disputes.
In January, the county rescinded its opposition to the Ho-Chunk Nation land-into-trust application. The tribe now plans to attend the county's Tribal Affairs Committee meeting next week to discuss moving forward.
Efforts with the Stockbridge-Munsee
Community haven't been as successful. The county refused to approve a land-into-trust agreement last year and talks have fizzled since then.
