Sen. Mike Johanns of Nebraska won't seek re-election in 2014

Sen. Mike Johanns (R-Nebraska), a former member of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee, won't run for re-election in 2014.

Johanns joined the committee after being elected in 2008. He served until the 112th Congress and was an advocate for tribal colleges and spoke about addressing suicide among youth.

Johanns's departure will leave freshman Sen. Deb Fischer (R-Nebraska) as the state's senior senator. She is a new member of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee and recently voted to remove tribal jurisdiction provisions from S.47, a bill to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act.
