The Five Civilized Tribes Inter-Tribal Council met last week to discuss mutual concerns.
The council consists of the
Cherokee Nation,
Chicksaw Nation, the
Choctaw Nation, the
Muscogee Nation and
the
Seminole Nation.
The Choctaws hosted the meeting, which took place last Thursday and Friday.
"The Inter-Tribal Council is one of the oldest organizations in Indian Country,” said Choctaw Chief Gregory E. Pyle. “The unified effort of members of the council and its delegates is important in our communication on a state and federal level.”
Tribal leaders heard from Assistant Secretary Kevin Washburn, the new leader of the
Bureau of Indian Affairs. Washburn is Chickasaw.
The next meeting will be hosted by the Cherokees in April.
