Yurok Tribe pressed to share all of $27.5M trust settlement

Members of the Yurok Tribe of California are circulating a petition to distribute all of a $27.5 million trust fund settlement on a per capita basis.

The tribal council wants to use $17.4 million for a per cap and the remaining $10.1 million for attorney fees and to develop a casino resort. The petition asks for all of the money to be shared with tribal members.

“I’m going to die pretty soon. I might as well get some money out of them," Flo White told The Two Rivers Tribune as she signed the petition.

Tribal members are currently casting mail-in ballots on the council's plan for the money.
