Native teen to testify about alleged assault by police officer

A Native teen is testifying today against a Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer who allegedly assaulted her.

Jamie Haller was 17 when she was placed in the back of a police cruiser in September 2011. She said Const. Andy Yung repeatedly punched her in the face.

“The BCCLA continues to have deep concerns about what happens when Indigenous people in the North and Interior of this province call 911 for help," Lindsay Lyster, the president of the B.C. Civil Liberties Association, said in a press release.

Yung is charged with one count of assault.
