The Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians in California held a public meeting on Monday to discuss its land plans.

The tribe presented nine options for a 1,400-acre property known as Camp 4. The main goal is to provide housing for members.

“When we bought it, we said the exact same thing. This is the start of a great dialogue," Chairman Vincent Armenta said at the meeting, Noozhawk reported.

The tribe wants the land place in trust but plans to ask Congress for a bill. Prior applications to the Bureau of Indian Affairs have been bogged down by litigation and appeals.

Armenta ended the meeting after 90 minutes, according to news reports, after it appeared people were engaging in too much debate. He said the tribe plans to host another meeting.
