The Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians in Minnesota contributed $305 million to the economy, according to a tribal-commissioned study.

The tribe owns a diverse range of businesses and employs about 2,200 people. The economic contribution from the reservation alone was $124 million, according to the study.

But the impact goes beyond the reservation borders. The tribe created 3,600 jobs in a tri-county area, according to the study.

“When we look at the reservation as a total — the government and program operations and the enterprises — the economic impact in the region is actually fairly significant," Chairwoman Karen Diver told The Duluth News Tribune.

The tribe owns two gaming facilities but most of the economic impact came from non-gaming sectors.
