Two New Mexico tribes are interested in acquiring surplus property from the
Bureau of Land Management
, The Albuquerque Journal reports.
Santa Ana Pueblo
and
San Felipe Pueblo
plan to preserve the 3,144-acre site if they are able to acquire it. Local residents are also opposed to development.
The BLM is updating its
Rio Puerco Resource Management Plan
, which called for the site in question to be disposed.
