Petitions ask Mescalero Apache Tribe to share trust settlement
A member of the Mescalero Apache Tribe of New Mexico is circulating petitions to distribute a $33 million trust fund settlement on a per capita basis.
Joseph Geronimo wants each tribal member to receive $5,000. Any remaining funds can be put into a scholarship fund, he said.
Geronimo, a former council member, is collecting signatures in hopes of forcing the tribe to take action.
