Hopi Tribe council holds second vote on water rights settlement

The council for the Hopi Tribe of Arizona voted for second time on a water rights settlement.

By an 8-7 vote, the council agreed to work with Congress on a settlement to its claims on the Little Colorado River in Arizona. Chairman LeRoy Shingoitewa, who supports a settlement, cast the tie-breaking vote.

Just last week, the council voted 11-4 to oppose S.2109, the Navajo-Hopi Little Colorado River Water Rights Settlement Act.
