It looks like the Bureau of Indian Affairs will name a new director for the Eastern Oklahoma region soon.

The position has been vacant for almost two years. Jeanette Hanna, who was named the director during the Bush administration, was reassigned and now works in Washington, D.C., in the office of the Assistant Secretary for Indian Affairs.

The BIA finally put out a job listing for the position in April. A candidate is being vetted, The Native American Times reported.

"Our goal is to have him in office by Nov. 1,” acting regional director Karen Ketcher told the Inter-Tribal Council of the Five Civilized Tribes last Friday, the Times reported.
