Column: Indian state lawmaker in probe over 'double-dipping'

"In February, I reported that state Rep. Ray Begaye collected $29,000 in per diem payments in 2011, the most of any member of the Legislature for days spent on government business.
Begaye, a Democrat from Shiprock on the Navajo Nation, responded with a letter on how he is reimbursed for only a fraction of the expenses he incurs for serving in the Legislature.
“You have not walked in my moccasins, sir, but I invite you to,” he wrote. “Perhaps then, you will have a different story to tell.”
