The
Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians broke ground on a new retail development in the Bogue Chitto community.
The 5,200 square-foot Big Creek General Store will house a general store, fuel center, bait shop, laundromat and fitness center.
It will also provide a satellite office for tribal security, police and emergency personnel, as well as provide an emergency backup generator for the community.
"Our goal with this establishment is to bring as many conveniences to the community as economically possible while creating opportunities for tribal entrepreneurs," Chief Phyliss J. Anderson said at the groundbreaking, The Neshoba Democrat reported.
The store is scheduled to open in December.
