Indian Country Today refused to publish an opinion by attorney Keith Harper, a member of the Cherokee Nation, because it "made unsubstantiated allegations about our practices and the reporter" who has written a series of stories about the $3.4 billion Cobell settlement.

Harper spoke with ICT on the phone about his response to reporter Rob Caprioccio's stories. But even though nearly every major Indian web site -- Indianz.Com, Turtle Talk, Pechanga.net and Buffalo's Fire -- shared the piece, the Oneida Nation-owned media property declined to do so.

Instead, ICT made two major edits to one story, White House Says Lawyer in Cobell Deal Recused on Administration Conflicts, and labeled them as an "update" and a "clarification" on its website. One edit contained information from Harper's response.

ICT did not detail the "unsubstantiated allegations" that Harper supposedly made in his piece.
