US Attorney wants to provide help to Spirit Lake Dakotah Nation

The U.S. Attorney's Office in North Dakota is offering assistance to the Spirit Lake Dakotah Nation.

U.S. Attorney Timothy Purdon wants to designate the tribe's prosecutor as a special federal prosecutor. That would allow certain tribal cases to be tried in federal court and would provide funding for the tribe.

“They seemed very supportive in the meeting,” Purdon told The Grand Forks Herald of the proposal.

Other tribes have reached agreements with federal prosecutors to run similar programs.
