San Pasqual Band considers plan to develop full grocery store

The San Pasqual Band of Mission Indians is considering a full-service grocery store on a site that was the subject of a land-into-trust dispute.

The tribe originally planned a gas station, a convenience store, a restaurant and a commercial building on a nine-acre site. But a grocery store could replace part of the project, the president of the tribe's economic development agency told The North County Times.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs approved the tribe's land-into-trust application back in January 2011. A school district filed a lawsuit in September 2011, well past the normal 30-day deadline, but the parties agreed to dismiss the lawsuit this past March.
