Animal rights activists protesting circus on Shinnecock Nation

Animal rights activists will protest the presence of a circus on the Shinnecock Nation in New York.

Local laws bar exotic animals in the town of Southampton. But the Cole Brothers Circus is avoiding the ban by going to the reservation.

“We’ve looked at how and what they do with the animals, and we didn’t find any issue with the treatment of the animals,” Trustee Lance Gumbs told The Southampton Press of the circus operation.

The circus will be held at the tribe's pow-wow grounds next Monday and Tuesday.
