Members of the Muscogee Nation ran 36 miles in support of tribal provisions in S.1925, a bill to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act.

The Senate passed the bill in April. In May, the House approved H.R.4970 but it lacks the tribal jurisdiction provisions.

To call attention to the issue, tribal members ran to the office of Rep. John Sullivan (R-Oklahoma). He voted for the bill despite the failure to include protections for American Indian and Alaska Native women.

"For us not to do anything, is just again allowing for one more victim, one more woman, to be a victim of domestic violence," spokesperson Cherrah Ridge said at the rally, KTUL-TV reported. "That's not going to be tolerated. We have to let Congress know that each and every day."
