Suspended leaders allegedly break into Yankton Sioux building

Six suspended leaders of the Yankton Sioux Tribe of South Dakota allegedly broke into the tribe's headquarters on Thursday, The Mitchell Daily Republic reported.

The six leaders allegedly entered the building while Chairman Thurman Cournoyer Sr. was holding a council meeting in another location. The Bureau of Indian Affairs was notified but refused to intervene, a tribal member told the paper.

The six leaders say they were illegally suspended at a meeting called by Cournoyer. They claim he is trying to fire numerous employees who don't agree with him.
