Stockbridge-Munsee
Community boycotted a planned meeting with the Tribal Affairs Committee in Shawano County, Wisconsin.
The tribe is upset by the failure of the county to act on a land-into-trust agreement.
"They told me they would not show up, period," Tom Madsen, the county's interim administrative coordinator, told The Shawano Leader.
The tribe has agreed to pay $140,000 annually for the next 10 years to address the loss of property taxes.
The deal has stirred controversy among some local officials and residents, who say the tribe could pull the funding if the county opposes any future land-into-trust applications.
