Some Colville leaders support per caps from $193M settlement

A $193 million trust settlement for the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation is turning out to be a political issue.

The tribal council proposed distributing 20 percent on a per capita basis. But two incumbents who are seeking re-election said they believe 50 percent should go to tribal members.

The tribe holds an election on June 16 for seven seats on the council. Two other candidates said they support a petition calling for 50 percent of the settlement to be distributed on a per capita basis.

Tribal member Joanne Sanchez has been circulating the petition.
