Column: Boys and Girls Club remembers SuAnne Big Big Crow
Posted: Wednesday, May 30, 2012
"SuAnne Big Crow’s mother has had one mission for the past 20 years: To keep the Boys and Girls Club that bears her name up and running.
Big Crow, an all-state athlete who earned several South Dakota State records and led her team to a state Class A basketball championship, was killed in a car accident 20 years ago.
Since then, her mother, Chick Big Crow, has worked to keep the SuAnne Big Crow Boys and Girls Club in Pine Ridge open and able to help reservation youths. It was the first charter member of the Boys and Girls Clubs of America to open on an Indian reservation.
The club will celebrate its anniversary on Saturday, with a lunch and ceremony from 1 to 3 p.m."
