Rival group opposes change in Blackfeet Nation enrollment rule

A rival group says the Blackfeet Nation of Montana shouldn't relax its membership criteria.

Blackfeet Against Open Enrollment doesn't think the tribe is in danger of losing its numbers. The group wants the tribe to keep its 1/4 blood quantum standard.

"There was a time when we were only down to 300 in the Blackfeet Nation, we were 300 strong. And today we're over 17,000 and growing," tribal member Glenda Comes At Night told KTVQ-TV.

A group called the Blackfeet Enrollment Amendment Reform is petitioning the tribe to eliminate the blood quantum requirement.
