Grande Ronde council member charged for meth and assault

A council member for the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde in Oregon has been charged with domestic assault, harassment and possession of methamphetamine.

Valorie C. Robertson, 49, who is on the last year of a three-year term, allegedly hit her daughter-in-law at a tribal housing unit. The assault charge was upgraded from a misdemeanor to a felony because it was allegedly committed in the presence of minor children.

Robertson allegedly admitted that she used meth after a container was found in her purse that tested positive for the drug.

"We are bringing our tribal council together immediately, and as soon as council has sufficient information, we will address this situation," the tribal council said in a statement. "We will keep our membership informed as this progresses."
