Rick Santorum suspends Republican presidential campaign

Former U.S. senator Rick Santorum ended his presidential campaign on Tuesday, paving the way for Mitt Romney to claim the Republican nomination.

Santorum won a number of important contests but was trailing Romney in the delegate count. He also raised far less cash than the former governor of Massachusetts.

The Republican party will finalize its presidential nomination in Tampa, Florida, in August.
