Seneca Nation bans synthetic marijuana on the reservation

The Seneca Nation of New York has banned synthetic marijuana, bath salts and drug-use paraphernalia on the reservation.

Synthetic marijuana, sometimes known as Spice or K2, has become increasingly popular throughout the U.S. Its use can lead to psychotic episodes, heart attacks and other violent behaviors.

Bath salts also have increased in use and can lead to similar effects as synthetic marijuana. Reports of suicidal thoughts have been associated with the chemicals.

"This is another good decision for the Seneca Nation and its neighbors, and is consistent with our long-standing aversion to drugs and drug-related instruments,” said President Robert Odawi Porter. “These drug-related substances have no place around children and are not in the community’s best interests.”
