Remarks by SBA Administrator Mills at NCAI winter session
Posted: Thursday, March 8, 2012
Karen Mills, the head of the
Small Business Administration, addressed the
National Congress of American Indians on Wednesday.
The SBA oversees the 8(a) program, which provides opportunities for minority-owned businesses to enter into contracts with the federal government.
Tribal and Indian-owned firms represent a small, but growing, segment of the industry.
"Through our 8(a) program, 300 American Indian, Native Alaskan and Native Hawaiian firms received more than $6 billion in contracts last year," Mills said at NCAI's
2012 executive
council winter session in Washington, D.C.
