Mariah Watchman, a member of the
Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation
in Oregon, is competing to be
America's Next Top Model
.
Watchman, who grew up on the reservation, is proud to be the first enrolled tribal member on the show. She's using her heritage to her advantage.
"The first thing I did was speak my language," Watchman told The Oregonian. "That caught everyone in the room's attention."
Watchman, who attended
Haskell Indian Nations University
, also was proud to represent Pocahontas during a segment of the show about American icons.
