An inquiry into the death of Phoenix Sinclair will move forward after a union representing child welfare and social workers in Manitoba lost a court appeal.

Sinclair was under the care of Manitoba's Child and Family Services. The inquiry will reportedly look at the role child welfare and social workers played in her death.

Sinclair was killed in June 2005. Her body was found on the Fisher River First Nation in March 2006.

Sinclair's mother, Samantha Kematch, and her common-law husband, Karl McKay, were each convicted of first degree murder. Both are serving life sentences.
