Editorial: Cherokee Nation's economic empire keeps growing

"The Cherokee Nation this week reminded Oklahomans of the contributions the sovereign nation makes to the state of Oklahoma. The Cherokee Nation Economic Impact Report, based on figures through the end of 2010, showed that activities by the largest Native American tribe in the nation and in this state contributed $1.06 billion to the Oklahoma economy, provided $401 million in salary and supported 13,527 Cherokee and non-Cherokee jobs.

Beyond its direct investments, the Cherokee Nation supports a number of local industries and continues to drive concurrent private sector investments and development in northeast Oklahoma.

The report showed a direct economic impact of $831 million in production of goods and services in the nation's 14-county jurisdiction, including $106 million in Tulsa County."
