California county cites concerns about land-into-trust bids
Posted: Monday, January 30, 2012
Officials in San Diego County, California, say tribes have submitted land-into-trust applications totaling more than 13,000 acres.
So far, about 5,000 acres have been placed in trust since 2000, according to the county. The land will be taken off the tax rolls, costing the county more than $1.3 million.
"The county does not receive sales tax revenue from commercial activities on lands taken into trust; yet the county remains responsible for addressing ongoing offsite impacts associated with the use of these commercial parcels,"
Sarah Aghassi, the county's deputy chief administrative officer, wrote in a report that was reviewed by The North County Times.
The county board of supervisors has voted to oppose several land-into-trust applications.
