Navajo Nation President Ben Shelly
is being criticized by some
Navajo Nation Council
delegates for some or his recent remarks.
Last week, Shelly told the members of the Arizona Legislature that
Gov. Jan Brewer
(R) "turns me on," the Associated Press reported. A day later, he reportedly told New Mexico
Gov. Susana Martinez
(R) that it looked like she gained some weight.
"It comes out of respect," council delegate Edmund Yazzie told the AP. "You don't say that to any governors, senators or representatives."
Neither Brewer nor Martinez were offended by the remarks, their spokespersons said. Both are friendly with Shelly.
