A new website aims to keep the Alutiiq language alive for new generations.
Only 15 people are fluent in the language. So the
Afognak Native Corporation
,
Koniag Inc.
and the
Alutiiq Museum
created
Alutiiq Learner
.
"So for our kids to be able to learn, that is really important for them to be able to see the world through Alutiiq eyes," Shauna Hegna told KTUU-TV.
Organizers recently won a grant from the
Administration for Native Americans
to keep the site going.
