Former St. Regis Mohawk leader sentenced for drug charges

Philip H. Tarbell, a former chief of the
St. Regis Mohawk Tribe of New
York, was sentenced on a drug charge.
Tarbell pleaded guilty to possession with the intent to distribute a controlled substance. He admitted he was caught in November 2010 with 89½ pounds of marijuana at the U.S.-Canada border.
While awaiting sentencing, Tarbell was arrested in November 2011. He has been charged with conspiring to possess with intent to distribute ecstasy.
Tarbell will serve one year and a day on the marijuana charge. The ecstasy case is pending.
