Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe praises start of dam breaching work

The Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe of Washington is welcoming the start of dam removal work on the Elwha River.

Demolition began yesterday on the 210-foot-tall Glines Canyon Dam. Work on the 108-foot-tall Elwha Dam will begin later this month, The Peninsula Daily News reported.

“We're excited and getting overwhelmed with the excitement. It's really here," Chairwoman Frances Charles told the paper.

The project will last three years.
