Lummi Nation and county announce agreement over ferry

The Lummi Nation and Whatcom County in Washington said they have reached an agreement for the Lummi Island ferry.

Details are scarce but the lease will apparently run for 35 years. The costs will be disclosed after the tribal council and the county council approve the deal.

"Once the contract language is finalized, both councils will vote on the final contracts," the tribe and the county said in a joint statement, The Bellingham Herald reported. "Additional details will become available as the contract language is developed in concert by the parties."

The tribe owns the land where the ferry docks.
