The Lummi Nation agreed to enter into mediation with Whatcom County, Washington, over a ferry agreement.
The tribe owns the land where the Lummi
Island ferry docks. A prior agreement expired after the Bureau of Indian Affairs said it had never been federally approved.
The tribe has made several offers to the county but none have resulted in a final deal. The two sides expect to meet with a mediator by the end of the month.
