Editorial: Keystone XL Pipeline battle all comes down to politics

"Regardless of where you stand on building the Keystone XL pipeline, the issue says a lot about the current state of politics in Washington, D.C. and the constant, hardened impasse our country finds itself in.

Instead of dealing with the project on its merits and weighing the potential benefits of job creation and energy security against the potential problems of public and environmental health, both parties have decided to turn this into a political game of football.

The proposed pipeline would carry oil from tar sands in Canada to refineries on the Gulf Coast through six states, including South Dakota, and has been under federal review for three years, and a final decision from the Obama administration was expected this year."
