Letter: Actions matter more than apology by Kansas governor
Posted: Friday, December 2, 2011
"Gov. Sam Brownback recently had a ceremony to apologize for the historically bad treatment of indigenous people in Kansas. The Four Tribes in Kansas and the Kaw Nation attended. The Miami, Peoria, Wyandotte, Delaware, Cherokee, Citizen Potawatomi, Odawa, Shawnee, Sac and Fox, Iowa, Quapaw, Ojibwe, Christian Munsee, Kiowa, Cheyenne, Comanche, Arapaho, Otoe-Missouria, and Osage tribes should be included on the list.
As the apology was given, I had to wonder if it changed the inactivity of Kansas and the Brownback administration in righting the wrongs concerning the Winters Doctrine of the U.S. Supreme Court and the availability of enough safe drinking water for the Kickapoo Nation in Kansas."
