The Lumbee Tribe of North
Carolina elected a new chairman on Tuesday.
Paul Brooks won the most votes out of a field of four candidates. He could take office as soon as next week, The Fayetteville Observer reported.
Brooks will be in office until January 2013. He replaces Purnell Swett, who resigned before his term was up.
The tribe also elected seven members to the council.
