The
New Mexico Office of Archaeological Studies uncovered Pueblo and Mexican pottery shards while excavating a Spanish-era road that dates to the 1600s.
The pottery came from Galisteo Pueblo and other Pueblo villages south of present-day Santa Fe, archaeologists said. The style ceased to be produced in the early 1700s.
The Mexican pottery came from Puebla. That style ceased to be produced sometime in the 1600s, according to archaeologists.
The road itself may have been the first Spanish-paved street in Santa Fe.
